The most profound lessons
can be found
in the most simple interactions.
At least that's what I've found over the past few weeks.
Coincidence?
I know not.
It makes me wonder
if He has been trying to speak to me
through those around me all along
and I just haven't been listening.
---
"Why are you so beautiful?" I asked.
(Expecting the usual denying of the compliment.)
But she said something I have never heard,
nor would ever expect from someone in high school.
Let alone a sophomore.
She looked at me with a smile.
Not a
dont-hate-me-because-im-beautiful
smile,
but a
you-know-I think-I-finally-understand
radiant sort of smile
And she spoke the words she genuinely understood and knew.
The words that rung true
as she said:
"Because God made me this way."
---
Or the remark a friend made last night:
"Of course it was the hardest part.
It was the moment
he had to prove himself."
and those last two lines echoed in my head
over and over
for the rest of the night.
--
Or last week when asked,
"What is courage?"
And words that were not my own came to me
"What is courage?"
And words that were not my own came to me
and surprised myself as I uttered,
"Courage is being scared to death
and doing it anyway."
---
Or through tears when a hero of mine said to me:
"You must be good to your siblings.
Don't be a trouble-maker.
It breaks my heart to see how easily
we take our siblings for granted.
One day you'll realize
your family is all you have,
and you'll wish you were good to them
when you were young.
But by then
it's too late."
--
She jumped up and down with excitement
skipping from one side of the room to the other
edging her way between the set-up chairs.
You could just tell that she couldn't wait
until it was her turn.
Her turn to one day be baptized, too.
And then her little feet made their way
to the other side of the room.
She started coming towards me.
She came up to me
and gave me the BIGGEST hug.
It melted my heart.
------------
Man,
I sure am blessed to know some incredible people.
I feel like I resemble a high-class "problem"
my friend joked about the other day when he said:
"I wanted so badly
for it to be a bad day today.
But there were just too many good things that happened!
I couldn't even count them all."
Goodness,
I sure have a lot to be thankful for!
Here is a list
of a few little things :
Well...
I those could only be one word answers.
So, as an extension to my list
I am also thankful for:
opportunities to serve
time spent with my family
hard work
answered prayers
good food
sleeping in
blogs to ramble on
new opportunities
shared smiles
meeting new people
and life!
Life is so good.
The Lord is so good.
Prayers are answered.
Ya know,
this reminds me of a song off of Veggies Tales.
A show I used to watch as a kid.
The words to the song are simple,
The words to the song are simple,
but they make me smile.
I thank God for this day,
For the sun in the sky,
For my mom and my dad,
For my piece of apple pie!
For our home on the ground,
For His love that's all around,
That's why I say thanks every day!
Because a thankful heart is a happy heart!
I'm glad for what I have,
That's an easy way to start!
For the love that He shares,
'Cause He listens to my prayers,
That's why I say thanks every day!
For the sun in the sky,
For my mom and my dad,
For my piece of apple pie!
For our home on the ground,
For His love that's all around,
That's why I say thanks every day!
Because a thankful heart is a happy heart!
I'm glad for what I have,
That's an easy way to start!
For the love that He shares,
'Cause He listens to my prayers,
That's why I say thanks every day!
..Wishing you the very best on this Thanksgiving.
Thank you for being you.
Oh,
& Merry Christmas!! :)
Haily.
